"Arsenic and Old Lace" concerns the sweet old Brewster sisters, beloved in their genteel Brooklyn neighborhood for their many charitable acts. One charity which the ladies don't advertise is their ongoing effort to permit lonely bachelors to die with smiles on their faces--by serving said bachelors elderberry wine spiked with arsenic. It's up to their nephew, Mortimer, to save both his sanity and his recent engagement to Elaine...while keeping his brothers Teddy (who thinks he's Theodore Roosevelt) and Jonathan (a homicidal maniac) at bay.

“Arsenic and Old Lace” is a 1940s screwball comedy. In “screwball comedy,” style is all, with farcical situations, fast-talking, witty repartee and a rat-a-tat attitude. Examples are “His Girl Friday,” “Some Like It Hot” and “The Front Page.”
